Bell Labs - Innovators in Technology

Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs has been researching and developing convergence-related security solutions for more than a decade. The award-winning OmniAcees 3500 NLG and the Web Services Gateway  are prime examples of security innovations developed by Bell Labs.

Setting the standard: X.805

Alcatel-Lucent was both the author and an early proponent of the ITU-T X.805 recommendation for end-to-end communication security. The standard divides the security-related features of complex end-to-end systems into separate architectural components that are independent of technology. This approach lies at the heart of the Alcatel-Lucent security framework. X.805 is prescriptive for both designing-in and working through the process that builds secure products, solutions and infrastructures.

Alcatel-Lucent is driving the development and dissemination of X.805 by expanding its ISO-equivalent version (ISO 180128) for adoption as part of the suite of standards known as the ISO 27000 series. We are working directly with the standards bodies, authoring and contributing to this formalization of standards.

Expertise

Alcatel-Lucent is the co-founder and service delivery leader of the Computer Emergency Response Team – Industry, Services Tertiary (CERT-IST), a not-for-profit consortium of French enterprises collaborating on security vulnerability alerts, advisories and incident response. Dedicated experts from Alcatel-Lucent perform vulnerability research and, through our Threat Management Center, monitor security events in more than 100 countries.

Non Stop Laptop Guardian

The Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is a small self-contained computer equipped with its own hardened operating system, memory, storage, rechargeable power, and a 3G cellular modem with global position system (GPS) transceiver that plugs directly into the PCMCIA port of a laptop.

Designed to integrate with the laptop, the OmniAccess 3500 NLG provides the necessary connectivity and tools to keep laptops secure, up-to-date, and backed up regardless of location. The OmniAccess 3500 NLG backs up the hard drive, stores encryption keys, and downloads and applies updates even when the laptop is turned off , thereby helping the laptop resist an attack by keeping its security systems current

The OmniAccess 3500 NLG facilitiates protection of data and retrieval of a lost or stolen laptop by sending a remote kill signal to inactivate the laptop and a GPS transceiver to give authorities the coordinates of the laptop for retrieval.
